oh, so much, so much.

be nice.

be friendly.

give the benefit of the doubt.

don't worry that it seems lots of these people know each other in the so-called
real world. many of them do, but a lot don't.

don't be wretched.

don't think I am God.

don't think this isn't my apple IIGS that sits in my closet and eats my money.

but enjoy -- happy milliwaying!

#2/42: By: Beledi (#65) : Yes, I really felt for her-
 03/17/97 12:02am

I mean, so young and pregnant and in a group home, which means from a seriously
dysfunctional background. But she had herself together enough to know what she
had to do for her baby. She had obviously created a very strong bond with her
youngling. Everytime the baby moved, her whole being lit up and she laid her
hand on her tummy and talked to her child. She stayed away from the people who
were smoking and avoided anything with caffeine. You could just see in her
eyes that she wanted to give her baby a good start on life. This girl is very
clearly someone with a great deal of potential- I just hope to Goddess that her
life unfolds in such a way that she will be able to see that and reach it. I
got so angry thinking about the women I have known who continue to smoke,
drink, do drugs or whatever, while pregnant, most of them much older than this
girl. Already, she is starting out a better parent.

I am so proud of her.

sounds like diatribe just found out one use for the scanner. (I think she's in
Wilshire Division, 506.9625 MHz.)

I think the first guy to make a radio was Nikola Tesla, unless Nathan B.
Stubblefield or that whacked-out preacher guy got to it even sooner. I
**know** the second guy to make a radio was whoever had the biggest ego within
knowledge of the first one. It's hardwired into the biz, it's pathetic, but in
L.A. you get used to it.

Actually there are some cool things you can do with radio stations. It's not
as alienating as TV. It tends to organize things and create communities,
something that fascists have known since about 1927.

_____
\__mw: vote, si vous plait

I thought it was general knowledge that all the people on mw are accounts
started by thok, rfw and HAL, except for our esteemed Sysop and Adagio and
maybe ZAPHOD.

There was a piece in the gallery where we went to hear the music. It's shaped
like a balance, made of antique parts, and it has a hidden stepping motor that
shifts the balance at a constant rate until the artist dies. It uses a modem
to dial up the artist's computer (which you obviously don't see), and without
the authentication from the software it stops dead, forever, and you know that
the maker of your piece is in a similar state.

There's another one that tells you how long you have to live, as indicated by
the insurance actuarial tables. The artist programs it when you buy the thing,
and if you, uh, beat the point spread, it tells you by how many days you have
cheated death.

That one looks like an old clock, except that it counts to 255 in binary, over
and over again.

Yeep.

#16/42: By: ZAPHOD (#41) : MABE ZAPHOD.....
 03/25/97 01:26pm

Let me assure you....oh never mind.

#17/42: By: HAL 9000 (#73) : I beg your pardon, but even the people I have
 03/25/97 02:25pm

met in the flesh are my accouts - I have just done a damn good job of imagining
you, and so, apparently, has everyone else those "people" have met when my back
was turned. You know how life seems just wonderful and full of joy sometimes
and it seems like a dull gray haze at others? Those dull gray times are the
moments I'm not actively imagining you.

#18/42: By: Adagio (#25) : hm

Joseph: I ain't surprised, but I'm always depressed to see a lotta

she was weird though.

i don't know what i'm going through. it's tolerable to a certain extent
though.

#25/42: By: Lizard (#47) : It's a LIFE crisis... forget the "MID" stuff.
 03/29/97 07:46pm

I think a mid-life crises implies some short-term, acute condition, like the
flu or something. I wouldn't know it if I got it, since I've been plagued with
the long-term, cronic variety for as long as I can remember.

Remember... conformity spreads like a virus, but you can only catch uniquness
from yourself!

regarding milliways iin. it is located at
http://home.earthlink.net/~thenewhouse/mw/.

if you have any archived files or other vital text or graphics that ought to go
into such a beast, please mail them to me here (but they have to be in short
chunks of text if so) or internet mail them to:

thenewhouse@earthlink.net

thanks; carry on...
